Farmhouse Kitchen Ideas

We bought our house because of the big, family kitchen. My first goal when moving in was to collect Farmhouse Kitchen Ideas so I could turn it into the warm, liveable space I dreamed about.

One of the things I love the most about farmhouse style decor is that it embraces the uniqueness of a space – and releases the need for things look look pristine.

Let’s be clear, with 3 kids, I have long since left pristine kitchens behind! 🙂

But farmhouse kitchens embrace the idea that families meet in the kitchen —-> we cook, we play, we share meals, we do homework, we share coffee, we make messes (a lot of messes!)

When I started looking for decor ideas, I was looking for inspiration that embraced the idea that my family would collect in our kitchen. My kitchen needed to be both functional and relaxed.

Farmhouse Style Decor

We moved into an all white kitchen. Over time, we updated the paint colors to a neutral blue/grey. We live at the coast, so blue is actually neutral for us! 🙂 And changed out the floors to a durable wood.

We added some whitewashed open shelves for kitchen equipment I use a lot. (I love to cook but HATE to dig through cabinets for what I need.)

And we pulled in some comfy chairs to make a sitting and reading nook. Our kitchen sits right beside our dining room so we opted to actually use the dining room for every day meals rather than have two tables side by side with one rarely being used.

We also moved in a dollhouse for my young kids so they had space to play. And a reason to hang out in the kitchen with the family!
